Parc de Bercy is the most beguiling and romantic of the capital's modern gardens, blending rational structure with poetic sensibility. It stands as one of Paris’s masterpieces in renewing its eastern urban district and, following the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, remains the city’s largest park.
Filled with humanistic charm and aesthetic grace, it nestles within the thriving new Bercy neighborhood, tightly integrated with the renowned Bercy Arena, the former American Center (now the Cinémathèque Française), a series of modern architectural complexes, and the Bercy commercial district, all serving as outstanding scenic focal points for the park. To the left lies the shimmering Seine River; across from it stands Europe’s largest library, the Bibliothèque nationale de France. In 2006, an elegant pedestrian bridge was planned to span from the library directly connecting to the park.
In the romantic spring atmosphere, two series of green corridors with white wisteria at Bechi Park create a dazzling scene that is utterly intoxicating.Strings of white wisteria form two grand, poetic waterfalls, a unique and distinctive landscape of the Bechi Park. The seasonal flower beds in front of the gardener's house are colorful all year round, even more magnificent under the winding flowing lines. The Gardener's House serves as both a greenhouse for the subtropical plant collection and an exhibition space introducing Parisian parks, as well as a natural plant classroom.A dazzling seasonal flower bed stretches from the gardener's cottage to the white wisteria pergola, with a green pyramid in the middle of the flower bed.To the right of the flower bed is the orange grove, and to the left is the sensory garden, where a variety of aromatic plants are cultivated in orderly geometric squares. The iron gate of the gardener's cottage, covered with lush green climbing plants, creates a unique pastoral charm. The White Gardener's House is the core of Bechi Park, converted from a former wine storage room, making it the most striking building in the garden. On the white wall of the gardener's cottage, ivy with fresh green leaves covers the area around the windows, and a series of potted flowers and plants decorate the window above. The wind pavilion to the right of the Gardener's House, resembling public art, is formed by a circle of white geometric marble blocks, with the Cinémathèque Française, one of Paris's most representative postmodern buildings, behind it.The Bessie House, with its distinctive red tile bricks, is a remnant of a former wine storage facility, set against the backdrop of a series of postmodern apartment buildings behind it.The modernized Beaux-Arts building now serves as a cultural and artistic center in Paris's 12th arrondissement. The right side of the entire Beishi Park is framed by a series of postmodern apartment buildings, creating a distinctive park landscape. The most unique feature of the park is its vegetable garden, a space where local elementary school students can experience rural life and urban children can connect with nature. Each vegetable plot features a small sign indicating the name of an elementary school and class, with the backdrop of the Spiral Apartments and the Film Library. The park features two vineyards; this one is an elevated vineyard, vibrant with life, adorned by a series of seasonal flower beds beneath it.A low vineyard on a red brick platform, with orderly rows and an intriguing red brick round tower in the central aisle.A lush and fragrant rose garden within a green hedge by the vineyard, charmingly beautiful whenever in bloom.Beside the vegetable garden, a lush green lawn features an antique-style carousel, a favorite among local children. The Beishi Park is divided into two sections, naturally connected by two elevated arch bridges, forming the most distinctive landscape of the urban park.Crossing the bridge, willows shade and flowers brighten: centered around a large circular lake, geometric walkways orderly divide the central lake house, which serves as today's garden data exhibition center.Under the tall plane trees beside the lake house, a circular theater leisure space serves as a place to enjoy the lake scenery.A imaginative valley by the lakeside, with lush green hills where people can stroll along field paths. The picturesque lake scenery offers wonderful spots for leisurely walks in Paris. The valley, Philosophy Garden, Hill Maze, Bulb Garden, Lily Pond, and Japanese Cottage are all great places for a walk.A lush, dense hilltop maze in the back garden of Beishi, crowned with an excellent vantage point for panoramic views of the lake.
Lush and dense, Bercy Park has become the most enchanting and magnificent garden in the eastern sector. Designed by the renowned architecture firm Ferrand, along with architects J-P Feugas, B Huet, and B Leroy, in collaboration with urban landscape architects Le Caisne and P Ragyub, the project took five years to complete and opened during the second edition of the Paris Garden Festival.
The site was originally a wine storage depot dating back to the nineteenth century. Within the gardens, visitors can still clearly see old railway tracks and the renovated wine cellars now serving as exhibition spaces at Bercy. Behind the garden lies a row of rhythmic wine stores and halls displaying famous French wines.
