Parc Georges Brassens. This poetic park is like an oasis in the quietest residential area on the southwest side of the capital. In the 18th century, it was a famous vineyard and the production site for past Parisian fine wines. Later, the vineyards disappeared and became vegetable gardens on the outskirts of Paris; by the 19th century, it had become the most important slaughterhouse in southwest Paris until its relocation to the suburbs and demolition between 1974 and 1975. Afterwards, the Paris city government planned it as the largest park since the Second French Empire, built jointly by landscape experts Ghiulamia, Milliex, and Colin. It was completed in 1984. Named after the famous French poet and singer Georges Brassens because he lived nearby during his lifetime. Of course, besides Georges Brassens, sculptor Chardin and painter Luce also lived nearby. The tranquil park features a comprehensive modern natural landscape, centered around a pond with shimmering reflections surrounded by an antique-style bell tower. Small bridges flow over water, rock walls stand against hills, seasonal flower beds, apiaries, small woodlands, rows of cherry trees, playgrounds for toddlers and children, an outdoor theater, all flowing perfectly within diverse thematic spaces. Next to the garden are the largest old book stalls in Paris, making it a good place for leisurely walks that make visitors linger.
