(Cinq Milliards d'Anne`es) was held at the Palais de Tokyo Contemporary Art Center from September 14 to December 31. This is the first thematic exhibition curated by renowned Swiss curator Marc-Olivier Walher upon his appointment at the Palais de Tokyo. "Five Billion Years" signifies infinite space-time and infinite possibilities, meaning the various potentialities of contemporary art under globalization in a post-history, post-modern, post-industrial, and post-capitalist era. The exhibition will launch a year-long exploration, initiating a current mode of thinking that does not treat the exhibition as the main event, but rather includes performance art, concerts, screenings, discussions, etc., within this diverse world, attempting to expand the realm of contemporary art. The special exhibition addresses the diverse aspects of current art, ranging from conceptual inquiries to social, political, and environmental explorations.
Another subtitle, "One Second, One Year" (Une Seconde, Une Anne`e), focuses on the exploration of space-time in contemporary art, particularly emphasizing its temporality. For example, Jonathan Monk's 2002 work "Big Ben," where a slide projector displays a postcard of London's Big Ben at 5 PM, coincides exactly with 5 PM in London. Additionally, every Thursday features "From YODE to Quantum Physics," passing through ghostly events, chainsaw concerts, and motorcycle lectures. On the first Thursday of each month, the Palais de Tokyo Salon invites artists, art critics, curators, scientists, athletes, musicians, and other professionals for discussions, among other activities.
