The "Cezanne and Pissarro (1865-1885)" exhibition was held at the Musée d'Orsay from February 28 to May 28, 2006. On the centenary of Cezanne's death, Paris presented this unique exhibition to showcase the mutual appreciation, friendship, and artistic dialogue between these two Impressionist painters.
Both Cezanne (1839-1906) and Pissarro (1830-1903) favored bright rural landscapes. From 1865, they frequently painted outdoors together in the lush fields around typical small farms near Paris, such as Pontoise, Argenteuil, and Auvers-sur-Oise. Both artists focused on portraits, self-portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. Their artistic friendship and dialogue lasted for over twenty years, ending in 1895 when their distinct painting styles diverged.
