Ossip Zadkine (1890–1967) was a representative sculptor of the "School of Paris" in the early 20th century. Originally from Russia, he arrived in the artistic capital in 1909. Influenced by Cubism in his early years, after World War I he adopted a Primitivist style, with his works oscillating between Cubism and Primitivism—sometimes intricate and Baroque-like, other times radically simplified and modernist. This museum studio is located on Assas Street behind the Luxembourg Gardens, serving as Zadkine’s studio and home from 1928 until his death. After his passing, his widow donated the studio, all his works, and personal effects to the City of Paris to commemorate this School of Paris sculptor. Following her wishes, the city transformed the studio into a personal museum, which opened on April 19, 1982.
